ENGLAND 2009

President's Message.
Dawn breaks on a chilly winter’s morning. Clad in a fine charcoal suit, a tall distinguished fellow man-handles a giant wheely-bag into an aluminium dinghy and pulls the zip-cord on the small outboard. Silence is his reward. His efforts become more and more frantic, the dark blue and gold cap bobbing up and down makes for a brilliant sight across the glassy water. Finally in a plume of purply-blue smoke the engine fires shattering the tranquil setting. The line is cast off and Jacko in his tinny-boat heads off from 'The Island' into the sunrise. The 2009 England Tour has begun.

When Singapore Airlines flight SQ220 departs Sydney at 0805 on July 2nd, 2009 bound for Manchester via Singapore, another exciting chapter is set to be written in our Club’s proud history. It gives me immense satisfaction, as I’m sure it does to all Life Members to know that our Club is prosperous, motivated and ambitious enough to embark on such endeavours. The legacy of the 2005 Tour for CPCC has been great, with enduring stories, images, camaraderie and Club spirit building endlessly on our already strong foundations. 2009 represents new cricket worlds to explore and conquer with games in Singapore and Amsterdam and our first visit to Yorkshire. There will be team trials & tribulations, epic tussles with our opponents, a pint or two after to savour the victory or mourn the defeat – and that’s just getting through customs!

I wish all Tourists, rookies and veterans alike all the cricketing best. We pray for safe travels, clear skies, good pitches and the return of Warney. I’m sure a glorious English summer awaits CPCC just as it does the Australians.

Col Huxley
President - CPCC
