THE EYE FOR A TIGER - Singapore Stopover A Huge Hit!

CPCC’s 09 England Tour playing fixtures started in sensational fashion on July 3rd at the Ceylon Sports Club ground in Singapore against the MISFITS. Whilst CPCC narrowly lost the 30 over match against Mark Christensen’s Singapore based ex-pat team, the Tourists were overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Misfits and the fantastic venue. Arriving on July 2nd, the two clubs soon became good friends after a terrific night at The Cavern, a sports bar at Boat Quay in downtown Singapore. CPCC chalked up success early with several solid wins in the boat racing. The camaraderie carried over to the game where the tourists were slow to start in the tropical conditions waiting over 10 overs before getting their first 09 Tour wicket. This honor went to the skipper Dean Storey who was the most effective of the bowlers followed by Andrew Davis. Chasing 202 off 30 overs the Towers got off to a great start courtesy of Andrew Cameron (17) and Adrian ‘Mugsy’ Molloy (30 retired). Further retirements to Rob Minnett and Arthur Smith left CPCC in a strong position but intervention by the Misfits star bowler, ex-CPCC opening bowler Mark Christensen left the remaining batsmen too many in too few overs. Deano again lifted to give some hope but the tourists fell 11 short.
