Brookvale Hotel, 7 May 2010: Jeff Porter-Dening crowned a great year for the Seventh’s by taking out the Club’s most prestigious award at the recent senior Presentation Night. Jeff’s 913 points was good enough to take the Bruce Shearer Memorial Trophy from Fourth Grade’s Matt Moore. The list of Major Award winners on the night was:

4th Grade’s David Le is on a roll. After taking a hattrick in 4ths just prior to Christmas, Dave went on to clean up the prizes at the Cricket NSW beach cricket day at Dee Why. To cap off a big January, Dave represented CPCC in their crushing T20 semi-final win over the Harbord Diggers Dream Team in January. We look forward to Dave carrying the Club on to more great achievements.
Record numbers attended the Club’s annual Christmas Party in December pushing the Rupee Room’s capacity to the limit. Despite the influx of club members, both RSVP’ers & ‘surprise’ attendees alike were eventually accommodated comfortably at the Collaroy restaurant and entertained by the Luke & Camo Trivia Show. The Superhero or ‘S’ Word fancy dress theme was well received with the likes of Satan, Sea Eagles Supporters, Souths Supporters, Silver Surfers, Sports Fans, Scouts, School Kids, Scientists, Socceroos, and Sailors all represented.

CPCC defeat Diggers ‘Dream Team’ in Semi
Nolans, Sun 24 Jan: CPCC’s first T20 foray took an enormous step towards a title after the Towers crushed the raging hot favourite Harbord Diggers in the semi-final. Led by 3rd Grades’ Tom Carden, the Towers squad comprising of a cross section of all 6 Grades rolled the 1st Grade Diggers team for 60 after having them shell-shocked at 9 for 23. Dean Storey (5 wickets) and Matt Richards (4) were the destroyers with the ball. CPCC’s Jas Ferris and Brenden Ball ensured that the Plateau reached the target to book a place in the final against Wakehurst on Sunday 21st of Feb at Nolans 1. Action starts at 10am.
The duo of 7th Grade Captain Dom Wheeler & 3rd Grader Steve Albanese outlasted their more fancied rivals on Sunday at Vic Huxley Oval, to claim the prestigious Double Wicket Champions Trophy. In the Grand Final, the pair defeated Peter Bonner (7th Grade) & Will Dobbie (2nd Grade) who had just survived an epic tie breaker in their semi against 1st Grade’s Rob Minnett & junior Mitch Curran. Wheeler/Albanese had earlier defeated Col Huxley (2nds) & Ben Fudali (3rds) in the other semi. The day was a great success with the field of 24 represented almost all sections of the club. Darren McDermott deserves thanks for organising the format and draw, whilst a special thankyou goes to the partners and kids who spent a long afternoon on the sidelines under the Pavilion. Canberra Oct 8 2009: A large contingent of CPCC juniors made the Club’s second trip to the nation’s capital for the annual Kookaburra Cup. CPCC entered 4 teams: U16 x 2, U14 and U12 to compete in the round robin format competition. The freezing weather did not stop another great week of cricket, socialising and sightseeing.

The much awaited Double Wicket Comp is confirmed for Sunday December 13th at Vic Huxley Oval, Plateau Park. The pairs format has proved a popular event over the past few years. We are still on the lookout for the Rothmans Trophy (pictured). It was delivered for engraving to the wrong address in Claudare St some months back. MASTERS TEAM DEFEATS MANLY
Manly Oval Nov1 2009: CPCC’s Masters Team (Over 40s) have continued their inaugural campaign in the Sydney Masters Competition with a comfortable win over Manly Grade Club. In the much anticipated local derby held at the picturesque Manly Oval, CPCC’s total of 204 off 40 ovals proved too much for the home side who managed 148 in reply. The Towers powered away early with Minnett and Moss proving to the Grade club that some of the best batsmen the Peninsula has produced can be found in ‘Park’ cricket. Both retired with 40’s. Handy knocks from the in-form Andrew Davis and rookie Rob McCabe ensured a big total for Manly to chase. Manly set about their task effectively until Luke Ireland claimed the first wicket. Tight bowling kept the run rate manageable with only CPCC junior Jake Fraser (playing for Manly Masters with his dad Andrew under the Father/Son rule) pushing on to get to forty. Any hopes of a Manly victory were dashed with Dave Quarford responded to having his first ball on Manly Oval disappear onto Sydney Rd by taking 4 wickets. A huge thanks to Manly for hosting us at Manly Oval, and for what was a great Sunday afternoon of cricket. PHOTOS
Cricket Back at the Plateau
ROUND 4: 2nd Grade took full advantage of the home conditions on Saturday to record a first day win against Harbord Bowling Club. Matt Richards started the wickets tumbling however it was Will Dobbie who wrecked havoc amongst Harbord’s middle and late order recording his second 5 wicket haul in as many weeks. A fifty to Al Richardson sealed the win and established a 100 run lead by the close of play. Good allround bowling gets the Outright on day 2.

CPCC Gets Home Against Harbord BC in a Thriller
Nolans 5, Sun 18/10: CPCC’s T20 XI organised and captained by Tom Carden, and evenly representing all Senior grades were victorious in their first match on Sunday at Nolans. A total of eight teams from CPCC, Balgowlah, Wakehurst, Manly Leagues, Harbord Bowling and Harbord Diggers cricket club’s forming 2 divisions, will battle it out for the MWCA’s first competition in the short form of the game. In true T20 style, runs were flowing at Nolans with our own side scoring 198 thanks to Josh Tosh (69) supported by Rob Minnett, Steve Bull and Dave Bennetts. Harbord came back late in the game with some big hitting to end up with 189. CPCC’s team for the first match as pictured was: back- Blake Conde (4ths), Josh Toth (2nds), Matt Richards (2nds), Andrew Coates (4ths), Dom Wheeler (7ths) front - Steve Bull (5ths), Dave Bennetts (1sts), Tom Carden (3rds), Brenden Ball (2nds), David Le (4ths) and Rob Minnett (1sts).

Plateau ‘Lagoon’ forces cancellation of First Grade Home Game
Round 3: Continuing rain forced the cancellation of several CPCC games in week 1 of Round 3. The Firsts and Thirds are now looking at one-day games next week however the Fourths, Fifths and Sevenths all managed to get in play. The Seconds are resting or active in other grades due to a forfeit by Cromer. Up on the Plateau, the much awaited first home game at Vic Huxley Oval for our top team in over a season was a washout despite the relatively blue skies thanks to the new lagoon formed by the depression left in the ground by PIPE International. Whilst the ground looks nice and green (thanks to soccer’s forced hibernation this winter, there are still serious issues with the levelness of the outfield.
MASTERS TEAM OFF TO A PERFECT START
Grahams Reserve Oct 11 2009: CPCC Masters Team (Over 40s) have started their inaugural campaign in the Sydney Masters Competition with a comfortable win over Burwood. Batting first, an opening stand of 90 by Rob Minnett (40 ret) and Andrew Cameron (39) set up a big 200 total off 40 overs. Burwood managed 150 in reply. The strong performance proved that this team will be no ‘Leaning Tower’. The next match promises to be a fantastic feature as Manly Grade host CPCC at Manly Oval next Sunday, Oct 18th. Play starts at 1.00pm and all Club members are welcome.
CPCC MASTERS SET FOR DEBUT
The Club’s first foray into the Sydney Masters Competition has been scheduled for Graham’s Reserve against Burwood on Sunday, Oct 11th. The over 40’s team will be playing every second Sunday in 40 over aside one-dayers on turf. The second round on Oct 25 promises to be a special match with Manly hosting CPCC at Manly Oval. BULL AT A GATE!
Steve Bull Charges Club Record In Round 1
5th Grade’s Steve Bull came with 2 runs off breaking one of the Club’s most sought after records - highest score in an innings held by Dave Moss. Steve’s score of 177 came within a whisker of breaking Mike Riggall’s record for the second time in three seasons after it had withstood all challenges for thirty years. Paul Brown equalled the mark in 2000/01. It highlighted what a good toss to win it is in round 1 as grounds are dirt, bowlers are stiff and fieldsmen few. First Grade didn’t quite take advantage of the conditions posting 170 whilst 2nds put on 298 at a barren Lionel Hutz 2. Darren McDermott’s 3rds fought back from a dire position at tea to restrict the oppostion to 270 at the stamp sized Lake Park, Blake Conde’s 4ths are chasing 180 whilst Jacko’s 7th Grade development squad captained by Dom Wheeler scored 250.
Rectification Work Delays Season Opener
Sept 12, 2009 - Despite Council’s efforts to bring Plateau Park (Vic Huxley Oval) up to a satisfactory condition, junior and senior home games were cancelled for round one. The decision was made jointly between the Club and Council ground staff in order to give the repair work the best chance of taking hold. There are still issues with the ground following PIPE’s year long occupation for drilling with a large depression in the playing surface where PIPE’s compound was situated. There is also cleaning work to be done on the artificial grass pitch surface as dirt has been worn into the surface when the plastic protective sheeting was exposed and torn during the hiatus. CPCC are still working with Council on getting the ground right. We understand that Council are still in negotiation with PIPE over further work to be done on the oval and we anxiously await developments.
A NEW WEBSITE FOR A NEW SEASON 2009/10
Welcome to CPCC’s new website for the 2009/10 season. This year again promises to be a big one with 6 senior teams and around 20 junior squads all shaping up well. CPCC will also be entering an Over 40’s team in the Sydney Masters Competition for the first time. Please bear with us as this site, the first major upgrade since Chris Jack’s first CPCC website template was developed nearly 10 years ago, is trialled and developed with new content including photos to be added soon.
