Joyce Huxley It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Joyce Huxley. Those associated with the Club from the very earliest days through fifty years will know of Joyce's wonderful support and friendship. They will also know of the key role number 96 Blandford Street Collaroy Plateau has played in their lives and that of the Club. Wife of Vic, Joyce was there accommodating the very first meeting of the Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club back in 1955, and many more thereafter. For anyone who has played for the club prior to the 1990's, there's a good chance they at one time had to call into no.96 to pick up a kit, a mat or a ball. As a young boy, I never tired of rummaging around under 'Aunty Joyce's' house checking out all the cricket gear. Joyce's passing sees the end of an era for the Club, but one that many hold the memories of very closely.

Santa Brings New Run-Ups for Plateau Park Nets Jan 2009 - Collaroy Plateau Cricketers were pleasantly surprised on their return to training at Plateau Park by the new bowling run-ups in the nets. This unexpected work has solved a number of safety concerns as well as improving the facility for bowlers and removing an eyesore created by the old dirt patch. Hopefully this work will compliment the eagerly awaited re-turfing work of Vic Huxley Oval expected to commence soon. CPCC and the Collaroy Plateau Community wish to thank Santa and the Warringah Shire Council for this very tidy job. We are fortunate to have one of the best cricket net facilities in the district thanks to CPCC's & WSC's combined efforts over the years. |

A1s QUALIFY FOR GRAND FINAL Sat 21/3 - The Towers have qualified for the A1 Grand Final after a tense, but ultimately convincing victory of Harbord Bowling Club. A fine partnership between Mick Trevaskis and Anthony Papandrea sealed the victory just before tea which sets up a massive clash with Minor Premiers Harbord Diggers. The match is scheduled for Harbord Park, 1pm start this Saturday & Sunday. The team would value a big show of support from the club. The other grades were not so fortunate. The A3s, B1s and B2s were all soundly beaten in their semi-final matches. |

CPCC's First International Player! Mikaela Turik looks set to become CPCC's first International player after her selection in the Canadian Women's Team to play a 3 match one day series against Trinidad & Tobago in the West Indies. If selected, she'll then play in the ICC "America's Cup," regional tournament in May, in Florida against Bermuda, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and the USA (click here for picture of new 30,000 capacity cricket ground). Provided they win the America's Cup, (which they did in 2007), they'll play other qualifiers and the bottom 4 teams from the upcoming World Cup in Sydney, in 2010; likely to be South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West Indies in the ICC 2010 World Cup qualifying tournament.
CPCC wish to congratulate Mikaela on this terrific achievement and look forward to following her exploits. Operation 'Baggy Green' has been temporarily superceded with Operation 'Baggy Red'.

Triumph at Golf Day Anita Hobdell became the first woman in the 40 year history of the CPCC Golf Day to win the title. Anita's 40 points were just ahead of a 3-way tie for runner-up with Matt Gollege, Jamie Hobdell and young Dom Wheeler on 39 points. Warringah Golf Club provided a perfect venue for this years event where fortunately the temperature did not reach the predicted 40+ deg. |

A2 THRILLER COMPLETES CLEAN SWEEP FOR THE TOWERS. MACKIN TAKES A HATTRICK. Round 10 - A last ball victory for the A2s at 6.30pm gave CPCC four wins from four one day matches on Saturday. The A1s had a bye. The sweep was a dramatic turnaround from the previous week where only the A3s managed a win in the first games of 2009. The highlight individual performance of the round was Mick Mackin's Hattrick for the A3s in their convincing victory in the local derby against Cromer. The Hattrick was the second by an A3 player this year (Dave Quarford took one in Round 5). CPCC passed Cromer's 127 with the loss of only 3 wickets thanks to strong batting by Dave Clarke and Rob Minnett. The A2s chased down a big total of 195 thanks to a fifty to skipper Brendan Ball and Dan Peters who hit the winning runs off the last ball. The B1s also had a close 2 wkt victory with Mike Rohanek continuing his strong season with the ball taking 3 wkts. Jamie Hobdell's 80 in a big 200+ total for the B2s ensured their victory over Manly District. |

Fred's The Best in CPCC's Clean Sweep CPCC Stalwart Dave Quarford turned in a career best day in round 5 to lead the A3s on to a big outright victory. Freddy started the day with an unbeaten 33 to get the Plateau over the line in the contest for 7 first innings points & The Chewy Cup. He then cut a swathe through the Manly Breakers batting claiming 6/14 which included a Hattrick setting up a run chase of only 93 which Collaroy achieved to take all 10 valuable points. All grades took the points in Round 5 with the A1s defending their big total of 267 against Mona Vale at Lake Park thanks to Mick Trevaskis' 6 wicket haul (6/41) following up his 50 with the bat on day 1. The A2s finished with the first innings win they'd scored on day 1 whilst a solid run chase by the B2s (Josh Toth 75* & Tom Carden 34) gave them a first innings victory. The B1s took a win thanks to a Long Reef forfeit. |

Hobdell's 9 for 77 in B2s was the best bowling performance in Australian cricket last weekend according to the My Cricket website. OFF & RUNNING |
The first round of the new season concluded on Saturday with CPCC claiming 2 outright wins, a big first innings victory a draw and a 3 run loss. The B1s continued to lead the way in week 2 as Michael Rohanek took 6 wickets to match James Humberstone's ton. 'Rock'n'Roll' finished with ten for the match in the outright victory. The B2s claimed an outright late on day 2 against the young Manly District team as Peter Bonner glued both innings together with the bat. Rob Minnett's 72* ensured a big first innings win against defending premiers Manly Leagues in A1s whilst Al Richardson's 60 helped the A2s hold on for a draw. The A3s fought back gallantly on day 2 losing first innings by only 3 runs and fighting hard to give an outright win a good shake. |

Netball / Nolans |
Thurs 8/5: Over the past 3 years or so, there was a good chance the major issue of the day in the Manly Daily was either Manly Hospital, Mona Vale Hospital or the search for a new home for netball. It was said back then, all those months and millions of dollars ago that the solution was simple:
With the announcement today that netball will stay at John Fisher Park one third of the issues have been solved and millions of dollars saved. Only 2 to go! |
